Is it possible to organize gridviews into subfolders that are in the "views" menu of a module such as OE?

Hi Susan,

Listing GridView workspaces on the Inquiries menu in Adagio can only appear as one long list on the Custom Views menu. It is not possible at this time to create sub-menus for organization.

I presume your list of GridView workspaces is getting long.

Hi Softrak Support,

Yes, it's long list. We have 88 .gv's and 60 .gvs's that I need to organize better. Is there a way to determine which .gv files in our data are connected to .gvs workspaces? I need to find .gv's that are not in use for anything and delete them.

Thanks,

I can only imagine what 60 workspaces looks like on the Inquires menu. smile My largest list is about 30.

Only GVS workspace files are listed on the Inquiries menu, not any of the individual GV files. So if the purpose of looking for GV views not attached to a workspace is for making the Inquiries list shorter, then you don't have to pursue this as removing GV files will not make the list shorter.

If this is for a general cleanup, there is no 'automatic' process to see which GV views have been referenced in a workspace. What I do (which I confess would be time-consuming for a list as large as yours) is to open each workspace in the list, re-save the workspace, and then close, and choose to save each view in the workspace. This will update the file date for the GVS workspace and all GV views. After the list is completed for opening, saving and closing, any GV views not belonging to a workspace will not have the file date updated, and looking at the files in Windows Explorer sorted by Date Descending will have these at the end of the file list.

Also just brainstorming...

As for running the workspaces from a more organized list, an alternate approach could be to save the view and workspace files not in the Views folder but rather in organized sub-folders named the way you want. And when you want to open an inquiry, Windows Explorer is used to look for the desired workspace name.

Or you can put a folder and sub-folder on your desktop that has a separate GV shortcut defined for each workspace, saved in the sub-folder organization.

In either case, it is possible to customize the Adagio menu to open Windows Explorer and the specific folder where your workspaces / shortcuts are saved, if you prefer to have the open Adagio program as the starting point.

To add to Support's suggestions:

To create a Folder with just Workspaces and their associated Views, create a new Folder, Open each workspace and select "Save Workspace as..." to copy the Workspace and its associated Views to the new Folder.

If a user does not have permission to edit Views, then GridView opens a dialog with the workspaces they can launch.

You can separate Workspaces by Security Group in the Views Folder, and present a smaller list to each user of Views they are entitled to see.
