A client decided they wanted to change the dates of their financial year, and thus proceeded to do so. The official fiscal calendar was Sept 1, - Aug 31. The last calendar year like this was 2011-2012. However two changes occurred recently.

1. 2012-2013 changed to Sept 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013
2. 2013-2014 changed to June 1, 2013 - May 31, 2014

All this occurred after postings for June and July 2013 was done as a part of the 2012-2013 financial year, thus now the calendar has changed those postings don't show up anywhere.

However if you change the fiscal calendar back then they reappear. Thus the trial balance for those months has no P&L details they are all zero.

Question is where do the transactions for June - July 2013 go and is there a way to get them to show up in the financial year of 2013-2014?

I'm not sure what you have done, but the best strategy is to unpost all batches that contain June and July activity. Then close those periods in the fiscal calendar and re-post the unposted batches. The June and July activity will end up in an "error" batch.

After you reset the fiscal calendar, you can mass change the periods for June and July to 1 and 2 instead of 10 and 11.

Hi GT,

Hopefully my response below will not leave you as baffled as the actions of your client crazy

Bear in mind that with respect to posting, Ledger is ultimately more concerned with the period/bucket number than the corresponding date/label of the bucket. If something posts to period/bucket 10 in FY2013 which happens to be labeled as June 2013, the info stays in that same bucket whether or not the "label" changes. The fact that one may change the label of bucket 1 in the FY2014 to say June 2013 will not cause the transactions posted to bucket 10 of FY2013 to move to bucket 1 of FY2014. If you've already posted the transactions to what would become the "wrong" bucket, then you'll have to unpost, re-label and then re-post to the correct period number that now reflects the new labeling.

While changing the Fiscal Year in Adagio is entirely possible without importing transactions to a newly created GL, the mods needed to have accurate Financial Statements can be challenging. Special specs are usually required for the year of the change and another set of special specs for the first full year after the change. I've had some accountants\auditors want to look at the year of change as a "short" year while others a "long" year.

Best, Pete

Yes thanks guys, I just wanted to ensure that the solution I came up with was what everyone else would do.
