The first three letters of our customer numbers represent the client and the last three letters represent the program within that client. I would like to see a subtotal by client when I am looking at my outstanding A/R. How would I do this?

Create a calculated column using the formula:
Code:
LEFT({Cust #},3)

in GridView and summarize to that calculated column.

Thanks Andrew,

I created the calculated column - it works as expected. I created a sort sequence based on that calculated column and applied it to the appropriate filter and checked off the "summarize" box. It does not summarize. The ++ appears but nothing else changes changes. Any ideas of what I might have done wrong?

Have you marked the Balance column to be totaled? You can email me the View if you want.

Deleting and re-defining the calculated column solved the problem.

I noticed you put the calculated column in a different location. Does position matter in the result, or was it simply a matter of starting over with the calculated column with all the correct settings?

Thanks for your help. It works very nicely!

Yes - summations are ordered left to right. Having the column to the right of the amount might have been causing a problem. Glad to help.
