Bank import in Csv format fails for bank rec. Error 'Invalid data xxx for field called'Amount' of record x.' This is the same format that has worked to date. It shows errors for all cheques ie. negative amounts on the statement.

How can this be resolved?

Hi Eva:
If it used to work and doesn't any longer, there are only 2 possibilities. Either 1) the import template changed or 2) the CSV file changed. The second one is more likely so compare it to earlier CSV files if you have them. Compare the CSV file to the template and adjust the template accordingly.

Thanks Bruce.

I have checked both of those and they are the same. The identical transaction that worked last time is complaining now. The template is the same. Is there something in the latest release that would cause this? It imports the deposits but not cheques.

Eva:

1) Was BR updated between the time the import worked and when it stopped working?
2) When you say "identical transaction" do you mean an actual file that was successfully processed from the period when it was working?
3) If not, do you have an actual file from that period and what happens if you try to import it?
4) Could there be more than 1 import template?
5) Does the new file match the olders one(s) in terms of number of fields and types of delimiters (quotes and commas)?
6) Is there a header row now when there wasn't before?
7) Did the cheques have negative signs before?
8) Does the template have the same number of fields in the correct order?

When all else fails, break the file down to a single row and try importing that. Manipulate the template until it works.

Or, as an alternative to this whole process, does the bank's web-site offer other download formats? If it offers a Quickbooks format, use that and then you don't need an import template at all.

Sometimes the OFX format is also called the Simply Accounting format. That's one that's working here.

Thanks for all your assistance. However, it isn't that easy. It is the Hot Fix for 111125 for BR8.1D that apparently is not available today. Even the OFX doesn't work if you have done any changes in the format recently. So if anybody has that Hot Fix available I would be happy to hear from you.

Thanks.

Hello Eva,

Ralph has said the the Simply format download from Bank of Montreal is working as the OFX format for his client. Have you tried that with your client?

Otherwise, you are going to have to pull the file into a text editor and edit it so that it matches an import format.
