I have prior year files for the fiscal years ending Mar 31/97 to Mar 31/08 that were created using G/L Version 8. I recently changed computers, so now I only have Version 9.0D G/L. When I try to convert the prior year files I get a message that says "Conversion to Adagio Ledger 9.0D failed. You must restore your data from a backup." I have Adagio V8.1A and 9.0C on the old computer, which is no longer in use. I tried converting using the old computer, but I get the same message when I try to convert from 8.1A to 9.0C.
How can I convert my prior year data so I can access it on my new computer? Or if I can't do that, how can I install V8.1A on my new computer so I can open old files?

Hi,

Without knowing the exact error message, I'm thinking that someone possibly opened that GL8 data with GL9 before you and then cancelled the conversion before it had an opportunity to complete. If this is the case, fixing it would require restoring a version 8 copy of the data from 'before' this occurred or doing a file by file compare, with perhaps some trial and error, to remove the GL9 files that already exist that would probably be best accomplished by your Adagio consultant.

GL9 is able to maintain multiple years of data within a single data folder and extension (unlike GL8). Often, rather than convert the data to version 9 and use it within a separate data folder (as in the old GL8 days), a site will use the Import | Prior Year Data function to import the GL8 data into the GL9 data. However, before this could be accomplished, the data would need to be cleaned up which again would probably be best handled by your Adagio consultant.

GL8.1A can also be installed as it occupies a separate program folder (i.e. Softrak\ALWIN) than does GL9.x, which is installed to Softrak\Ledger. It's possible GL8 is already installed at your site. Look for the Softrak\ALWIN folder.

Customer Service would be able to provide you with a link and codes for GL8.1A so that you or your Adagio consultant could install it, if necessary.

I had included the error message - "Conversion to Adagio Ledger 9.0D failed. You must restore your data from a backup." I seem to get the same error message for all years. I sent an email to Customer Support to request install codes for V8. Thank you.

Okay, I had anticipated the message being more specific.

Once, GL8.1A is installed, make sure you have a backup of the GL8 data, then open the it data and run DIC. It may be there are integrity errors that are preventing the conversion to GL9 from completing. There is nothing wrong with running GL8.1A and GL9.x side by side though, only that once data has been successfully converted to GL9 you can no longer use the data with GL8.1A.

Thanks. I have V8 installed now and can open all prior years. When I have time I will try to convert again (keeping a backup).
Thanks

Hello EMB,

Don't bother trying to convert your old data. Just retrieve it into Ledger V 9.0 so it is always available. Retrieve each year stepping backward one year at a time. Much, much faster and more convenient.
