When we have new parts for a particular customer, they absolutely cannot be shipped until either an engineering approval is received, or we have an engineering deviation.

What we've been doing in the past is creating the part number in IC, then creating an order in OE so that production can make the part, and just relying on comment lines (or even memory!) so that the parts do not ship.

I was thinking about making the part inactive after the order has been created, that way it couldn't ship.

I wanted to ask you smart folk what you would do in this case - how to prevent a part being able to ship in Adagio.

Don't let Inventory go negative, and don't let something ship without an invoice. Don't "receive" the item until the necessary approvals have been obtained.

Alerts might help too.

So what does marking an item as inactive actually do? I ran some tests, and was still able to adjust the item, add it to orders, and ship it once i marked it inactive. I got an alert that it was inactive, but that is it.

I like the alerts and negative qty thing though, that should work.

Making an item Inactive with Adagio Inventory 81B has an affect on report selection, such as Physical Inventory worksheets, and pop-up warnings as you have seen.

No preventions yet, but since we have added that type of functionality for AR customers and AP vendors, I imagine at some stage this will also be available for IC Items.

As with AR, and AP, the next release of Adagio Inventory will allow you to suppress inactive Items from the Grid.
