Hello,

We are in the process of migrating an Adagio installation onto a pool of new terminal servers (win2008). Our Adagio data files are stored on a network share and is accessed by a win2003 TS and has been working nicely for more than a year now.

After testing, we find that our cheque specifications are no long aligned as we had originally configured. (Confirmed by comparing print output from the 2003 server and the new 2008 server.) The 2008 installation is printing about "0.13 too far to the right and a single-page cheque is coming out as a multi-page print-out.

If I set the cheque spec to print with a margin of -0.13", the print-out centers correctly on the page. With us in the middle of a migration, I can't change the specs for everyone as it would affect the users still on the old server. Also, it's a nasty hack that should be fixed correctly without impacting critical users that haven't been transitioned.

I have checked the following:
* Windows language set to English (US)
* DPI set to default 'Normal 96 DPI'

Any thoughts on how can I resolve the printout alignment issue?

Hi, Mavis,

The problem could be the printer driver used on the 2008 server. It may well be somewhat different than the one used on the 2003 server.

You didn't specifically say but it sounds like you are printing to the same printer from each server. If so, see if you can try another driver on the 2008 server. If not, what happens when you do print to the same printer?

Perhaps also look in the Windows Regional Settings and the Advanced 'unicode' setting. Try changing the setting from English (Canada) to English (USA), or vice versa. This setting apparently gets saved on specs in some way and if different than what is on the workstation, left and top margin mis-alignment could occur.

The same printer is being used to print from both machines. Interestingly enough, the problem also manifests when I preview the printout.

Windows 2008 doesn't have the "Advanced" option set in the regional settings - not unless it's renamed and buried elsewhere.

Though, I can't confirm that switching the language from US English to CDN English works because of a new blocking issue:

The 'advanced' option is a workstation setting, not a server setting. Though of course Terminal Services makes the distinction a little less clear. Perhaps if you do a search for 'unicode' and 'windows 2008' in google, something will pop up.

Update:

I have changed the language to English (Canada) in the regional settings and logged in/out. Unfortunately, this didn't resolve the alignment problem.

I have also tried using a PS drive instead of PCL 5. Also, no luck.

A Google search didn't yield much on that front either. Mostly references to unicode support in various services, etc.

Hi Mavis,

Well - something's different. If there's one thing for sure, sending the same data to the same program yields the same results.

You'll need to check the printer driver versions on all the workstations and both servers. You'll need to try sending to different printers. You'll need to make sure that the specs being loaded are identical. You'll need to make certain that the regional settngs and screen fonts are the same everywhere.

It might be faster just to define a new spec that prints correctly in the new environment.

This is what it's beginning to look like. I suspect that the OS environment is the main culprit. Win200 vs 2008. With the exact same template working correctly on the 2003 server then being too far to the right on the 2008 machine AND printing single-page forms over two pages I suspect the environment.

We have switched clients to Windows 2008 servers without having to re-write the cheque specs.

The problem will likely be the Regional Settings. The users needs to have their location and language set to US to match what was previously set in the old server.
