I know that I can create a report in Gridview and then launch it from my desktop. It can open and then close down automatically. I also know that I can create an excel worksheet that can also be launched from my desktop, that once I open the gridview report, and the gridview report closes, I can select "update" and the excel worksheet will automatically open with the updated data from the Gridview report.

Unfortunately, my Adagio representative who has created several of such reports for us in on vacation for 2 weeks and I'd like to create another. Is there a place where I can find the instructions that I can follow to do the above?

Thanks in advance, and I hope my question is clear.

Hi Karen,

My guess is that your consultant is using the /XD parameter on the GridView command line to automatically send a View to an known Excel spreadsheet. You then open another Excel sheet and "Update" it from links to the recently saved GridView View. Unless you are very comfortable with Excel, my guess is that this is going to be too large a hill to climb without your consultant's help.

Why not start by just trying to create the GridView View you want?

Hi Karen,

To set up a shortcut to automatically send the contents of a view or workspace to an Excel spreadsheet, you can use the following parameters (as listed in the Help file, in the Command Line Parameters section, short version):

/XDW<workspace path> - Launches GridView and sends the named workspace (or View) to Excel.

/XDF<viewname:filtername> - Selects the named filter "filter name" for the view "view name" in a workspace. The filtername is separated from the sheetname by a colon.

/XDP<workspace path> - Launches GridView and sends the named workspace (or View) to Excel, and saves the file in a user-specific folder, for security.

/XDD - Creates a subfolder with today's date to hold the Excel workbook. (Must be used with either /XDW or /XDP.)

More information about each is found in the Help file.

The 'simplest' way to do this is create or identify your new GridView workspace. Then copy one of your existing desktop shortcuts and create a new shortcut. Edit the shortcut properties (right-click and pick Properties) and replace the old GridView workspace path with the new one.

As Andrew mentioned, if there is more to this than simply exporting the view to Excel (ie links to other Excel workbooks), then you may want your consultants help in order to ensure all those options and links are as required.

I did create the worksheet. That was the easy part. I think I'll take your advice and wait for Steve to return to create the link to a worksheet that automatically updates - I can see from your instructions above that I will spend hours trying to do it, and I'll end up needing Steve anyway.

Thanks for your responses!!
