I have an Accounting Service client that is using Adagio Ledger 9. They created a company in G/L and in error, they created fiscal year 2008 as Jan-Dec, 2008.
They also entered and posted batches. They are still in the first year. (They have not performed a year-end.)
They called me last night when they realized their error. The fiscal year actually is Feb 1, 2008 to Jan 31, 2009.

So here is the problem - is it possible to change the fiscal periods, especially since the fiscal year should have been 2009 in this case?

Samuel

Hi Samuel

It is not easy to do what you want.

One approach is to unpost every batch, change the calendar manually, change the fiscal period of each transaction (this can be done en masse by moving transactions of a certain period, selecting a new period), and then reposting. However, you cannot change the "name" of the fiscal year, it will still say 2008.

An alternative is to export everything to Excel, create a new GL, modify the periods, and import everything into the new GL.

Wow - I was afraid this would be a problem.
If the client has not done too much work on this, I might just suggest that they bite the bullet, and recreate everything from the start again. (We can always export/import the Chart, at least, to get them started.)

Thanks for your input, Steve.

Hello Steve:

Or is this a service that you could provide through the use of GridView-RW? I'm still a little vague on how the RW capabilities work (waiting for the webinar)!

In a single currency G/L, it would be possible to fix this using GridView-RW, but it doesn't take too many $120/hour hours to outspend $20/hour data entry people intent on a task.

Steve's method is the safest.
