Just a quick question, my Adagio seems to be very slow is this common??

Do you have a virus checker running in auto-protect mode? This will slow a system down and more especially when working with a program that has many data files (like accounting) as compared to a single data file (like Word or Excel).

If you are running Adagio froma network, you may want to investigate how fast the connections are and if there are any cable/hub/switch problems.

The size of your data will also be an influence. A list of 10,000 invoices will be much slower the 100, and so on.

"Slow" is a relative term.

Compared to the performance you had yesterday? Compared to ACCPAC Plus? Compared to your expectations?

If the "slowness" is new, then what has changed? Specifically, check the settings of your virus scanner, and make sure it is not checking your Adagio data files.

Is there a particular function you find is slow? If so, what is it?

What hardware are you running Adagio on? How much memory (RAM) is in your machine? What is the speed of your network connection? What operating system are you running? What else is your machine doing (besides Adagio)?

Sometimes there are some quite simple steps you can take to improve the overall performance.

when I refer to it as slow, in comparison to easypay, excel and any other program we use, I will check the virus scanner. Adagiao seems to be the only program that takes at least 20sec. to start up. When searching for a customer in acc/rec it can take even longer.....
I am thinking about increasing my Ram, I am not possitive what I have there now but that is something I was thinking could possibly slow it down.

Twenty seconds to start up is slow; 4 to 8 seconds is normal with Adagio.

If virus-software isn't to blame, improving your local computers can make a significant improvement in performance. As you suggested, increasing your RAM memory can help. However, if your local computer is more than 3 years old, you are probably wiser to spend your money on replacing it rather than adding RAM. New computers offer great value these days.

You should also check your server, cabling and switches/hubs.

For what it's worth, comparing Adagio to Easypay or Excel is not entirely accurate. Easypay usually consists of a limited number of employees, is often stored on the local hard drive and is standalone. Excel is a complex application but is installed on the local hard drive and, once running, does most of its work in RAM. On the other hand, both the Adagio data and application are installed on the server meaning that LAN performance is important. In addition, as Adagio starts up, it does a lot of checking to ensure that the environment is suitable (ie. tables exist, versions match etc.). I know this explanation doesn't make you feel any better but improving your hardware will!

We started using Adagio in January and it is slower than we were used to with AccPac, however it of course has so many other benefits that we could never have achieved in AccPac.

To speed up starting up the modules what we do is use the Adagio menu from the module you have currently open, to open another module. This way you don't have to enter in username and password again. I think you can also add the username and password to your shortcut so you never have to enter it. Or you can be like us and just buy more lanpaks and leave the programs you most often use open. It saves a lot of time throughout the day.

Something else that we found really slow are searches and reports. We upgraded to a Gigabit LAN which has brought our search time down from over a minute to about 20 seconds. Still slow, but tolerable. The wait is worth it when you get the results you need.

Some reports are still in some cases 3 minutes or more. We are in the habit of starting the report then finding something else to do (Tim Hortons?) then coming back to it. Again, if the reporting has been tested and you know it will produce the results you need, it's worth the wait. It can be a frustrating experience when you're still experimenting and trying to find out what report will produce the right results.

We have found most other of our day-to-day functions in Adagio to be fast and efficient.
