After installing the GridView server on my TS2003, I tried to start the service. The message I get is:

Quote:
The GridView Server Service service is starting.
The GridView Server Service service could not be started.

The service did not report an error.

Help. I am installing the demo on a client's computer tomorrow and am doing a dry run on my system as we have the same network system.

Thanks in advance,
Lars

From the GsWinCfg.hlp file in ..\Softrak\GsWin folder:

GridView Server cannot be installed as a service until it is registered and licensed. If needed, you can run it in console mode from the command prompt before you register the software.

See the GsWinCfg.hlp file for instructions on running GridView Server in console mode.

Ok - everything worked great at my office. I am now at the client's office and did everything exactly the same. From the Command prompt, I started the gwsin -console and confirmed that the service started. Leaving the window open, I open GridView with the /s parameter and get the message "No servers are active". I am installing this as administrator so don't think there are any rights issues. Thought I had it licked, but HELP!

You need to use /s:<ip address>

Doug is correct that /s<ip address> will work.

When GridView /s looks for servers it does so only in its own WorkGroup or subnet. Giving GridView the specific ip address tells GridView not to search for active servers but go directly to the server at the specified ip address. Using this method the "server" can be anywhere.
