I inherited ACCPAC with items set up in OE (Item 9 characters long). I converted ACCPAC to Adagio and want to activate IC (IC was not in use), increase inventory item length to 16 characters. Can this be done? If yes, how? We are using GL,OE,IC,AP,AR,PO (non MC company, lataest sp are installed).

One option would be to export the items from OE to a spreadsheet. Remove those data files OE no longer requires (search this form for a thread on how to do this). Setup an new IC with a 16 character item number. Modify the export items to make them 16 characters and import to the new IC database.

Doug's suggestion is not for the faint of heart.

There used to be an ACCPAC addon (it may still be for sale) that allowed for item number format change. You could run it on your data, but you will lose information that exists in Adagio but not ACCPAC, such as item notes and OE invoice history. If you are using IC 8.0B and not 6.8A or 8.0A, you would also lose item history. But it's worth considering.

I am not afraid to loose the items in OE (not to many of them) and export -import option would be good solution. However, keeping the invoice history is important. We are using IC 8.0A.
Is additional information can help to find compromised solution?

You may want to get to know an Adagio consultant in your area. They could help you decide on a plan.

What you are attempting to do is complicated and unique to your company. You need someone who can explain the pros and cons as it applies to your company. Unfortunately for you, that will probably cost money.

You could also contact a data repair service (Softrak itself offers the service). They can give you a quote for performing the conversion for you.

What you need is someone to do a Item Format change for you. There is no utility for Adagio that does this. We did an Item format change for one of my clients earlier this year. If I recall the total cost was somewhere around $1400 (Canadian). We would be happy to provide you with the same service.
