We have trouble with import into alternate price lists. Is there a must include list for items. We export & modify in Excel, don't change column widths but upon import we are always asked for additional information. The most recent was "invalid data price for field called price list code." I would love to be able to export, save the format & import using the identical setup.
Are there still problems with the import to alternate price lists? We are using multicurrency and would like to have it work the same as the basic Adagio when it handles items that are not in the alternate price list. (default to regular price list) having an elective to which currency is used or linking it to automaticly be in the currency of the customer would really help. at present we have to include the full price list for each alternate price list in order to show sell price & when adding 1 new item that is not on, or intended to get special prices we still have have to go back & import it or import the entire alternate price list again. This is then times the number of price lists. Huge time user when you add items a few times a week.

Hi Bruce,

Make sure that if you exported with a 'header', that you import with a header as well. Perhaps verification first finds that 'Price' is indeed not valid, as the title row in the spreadsheet is being read when it should not be.

Try this - after exporting your information to Excel, use the 'Autofit columns' in the exported Excel spreadsheet and save with any other changes you make.

You should be able to export alternate price list items and re-import them using the same template field layout.

No, there is no automatic way of using the same template to export and import.

1) The only difference between the Export and Import templates is the 'stocking unit' in export (field #5). Remove this (and save) and you will now have similar templates (apart from the file name, which you can edit).

2) If you are exporting to make changes to existing alternate price list items, you are not required to export the entire list of fields. You only need Price List code and Item code (and Currency if your data uses Multi-currency), and any fields you are updating, such as Base Price, Sale Dates or so on. This is easier to maintain and make sure the templates are the same.

3) Use different templates for updating different fields as necessary. Perhaps have one to update only Base Price, and a 2nd to update all amounts. Of course this depends on how you want to do your item maintenance.

4) To help make sure your templates for import and export match, use the Print option to print the template layout, including file name and field sequence.

Thank you the header on import looks to be the problem. can you explain the update alternate as compaired to the import function.
Will the update add items to the alternate price list at the base price? Will it affect the special priced items on the alternate price list.

Hi Bruce,

Create alternate price list (Alt. PL) items will create new Alt. PL items and over-write existing ones. Update alternate price list items will only modify existing Alt. PL items.

When using the Create function, you have the opportunity of simply copying the price/cost amounts from the master item or changing the amounts up or down by a percentage. You can also select which of these amounts are brought in unchanged and other amounts are modified.

When using the Update function, you can only change one amount at a time (say Base Price or Sale Price, but not both at once). Updating can be done based on either the master item or the Alt. PL item. You can update using an amount, percentage, markup over cost, or required margin.
---
If you require very specific creation of prices and costs that don't follow a general pattern, import is a better way to go. If you simply want to copy over the master item amounts to create Alt. PL items (for special price recognition), then Create/Update is the way to go. Make sure that you don't overwrite amounts on the Alternative Price List that you want to keep.
