Quick Reports for Win 6.2A and 6.2B

We are using two versions of Quick Reports for Windows : the 6.2A and the 6.2B. We have upgraded to 6.2B to be sure to don't have any problems with the Y2K bug. Unfortunately, there is some incompatibilities with the 2 versions. Some phone numbers and fax numbers are missing when we try to open a file made with the first version with the updated version. Is there any way to solve this problem??? Is a new version available that doesn't have this problem??? For now, we always have to be sure that we use the correct version depending on whom will use the report... You can send me any procedure that could help me solve the problem by email or by fax at 418.627.8087. Thanks a lot. Steve Perron

Hi Steve, What you are probalby running into is that Quik Reports for Windows respects the Accpac settings to format phone number in the Company Profile. In the case of AR, if the setting is to format phone/fax numbers, the fields that display for the AR customer list in QRWin should be 'formatted phone' and formatted fax'. If the setting in AR is to not include formatting, then the QRWin fields are 'unformatted phone' and unformatted fax'. Soemthing is probably getting confused when Quik Reports for Windows is trying to read the AR company profile, thus nothing is being read. When are you able to see the phone/fax fields and when is there a problem? There should not be a difference between the versions in this matter. There is a program included with QRWin 6.2B called wrupdate.exe, which is used to convert reports when a module (such as AR) is updated. You shouldn't need this if you have AR 6.1A or AR 6.5A, but if you want to give it a try, make a backup copy of your report, run the wrupdate.exe program, and choose to update the copy. Note also that Quik Reports for Windows is not yet compatible with AR 7.0 at this time, but will be shortly. Check the website home page for information on AR7.0 compatibility.

Dear Steve The only issue we are aware of with AR phone/fax numbers has to do with reports having been created when these fields were formatted one way, and then after someone has changed this option in AR to edit the way these fields are formatted, the report no longer shows these fields. For example, if the report was created when the AR option was set to 'formatted' ph/fax numbers all is ok and the reports print fine. One day, someone decides to change the option in AR to be 'unformatted' ph/fax numbers, and then the fields do not show up at all. The solution for QRW reports is to remove the phone and fax number fields from the report and re-insert them, then save the report. Keep AR consistent and this should not happen again. Also, you MUST not keep switching between the old and new version of QRWIN. Keep only one version installed to get consistent results. As well, if anyone is in AR at the time the report is being created, edited or printed, this could cause certain fields to not be accessible during the retrieving of the data for the report. You can test this simply be having everyone exit out of AR while you print the report. Hope this helps! Regards

Hello, I just tried the program called wrupdate.exe, but it didn't work. I've made some other tests, and here are the results. All the tests above were made using QRWIN 6.2B with a report made with the 6.2A version. When I asked to have the field "fax number formated", QR gives me the "contact" field. I also see the "fax number unformated" instead of "phone number unformated" and I have a blank field when I ask for "fax number unformated". It's a bit confusing because everything's fine when I open the report with the QRWIN 6.2A version (the version used to make the report). I've also made a new report from the 6.2B version and it works well too. I see all the fields in their good places. I hope you'll be able to help me... Thanks again. Steve Perron

Hello again, Steve You said you tried "all the tests above" with the new QRWIN, but only quoted the last response. I gave the first response, and another support technician gave the second, as we did not know the other was responding to your issue at the same time! One of my suggestions was to remove the existing phone and fax fields from your original report (using the new 6.2B version of QRWIN). Then you must do a verify database procedure until QRWIN gives the message "report now up to date" (you access the Verify Database option from the Database toolbar menu in QRWIN), save the report, then preview it to see if this gives you the desired results. You MUST perform the above procedures for your report to update properly in this instance. Please follow the above steps or confirm that you have done so. If this still does not work (it should), then I would suggest rewriting the report in the new version. If this is not acceptable to you, you should either sign up on a technical support plan (you can email our Customer Service Department to do this) or contact your Dealer to have him take a copy of your data and test with his current release of QRWIN. If your Dealer is a Softrak Partner, they can obtain technical support on your behalf, and send us the data so we can investigate this further. Take care
