Prospect is currently still using Accpac Plus.

They have multi-currency turned on for 4 of 5 modules (Active for GL, AR, IC and OE; Inactive for AP).
The Home Currency is DOS with a Default Rate Type of “1” (which of course is user-defined).

In fact though, they are not using multi-currency in any of the modules. They have no use at all for multicurrency. I am not sure if they ever used multicurrency, but they certainly do not need it now, and they will not miss having it not turned ON.

We will be upgrading to Adagio next month.

Two questions:
1. If we leave everything as is, and I simply convert all their data to Adagio for the various modules, do they have to purchase and install the Multicurrency module, seeing that they have no need for this module?
2. Is there any way that I can get them back to single currency?

Samuel:

If MC had never been used, only turned on, at one time Softrak was offering to turn it off for free. I believe this has to be done before you convert to Adagio.

If any MC transactions have been posted then turning it off is a challenge. I've done it when there was a very small number of MC transactions. Very quickly it gets very expensive.

Hi Sam,

We sometimes have ran into this situation, and we were not aware of the Softrak option.

So, we used the Gridview Read/Write successfully, and edited the company profile in all applications and turned off M/C. We've been using GV R/W for years to fix such animals.

Then run the Data Integrity Check. You can run the R/W option on the Plus data before conversion to Adagio.

The only area that we think there is a file structure change in Plus is in GL and it will ignore the MC Net change files or will fix with the Data Integrity. It has been a while but we have done it many times.

You also will have to edit the Rate Type from 1 to AV or SP which is a default option that cannot be edited after disabling. If you have something odd like 1, it will come back to bite later. Check the default for the DOS Currency Code.

Best,
Brian

Doug, Brian – thank you for your feedback.

But I am still wondering, if we were not to touch the data and left the multicurrency active for the modules.
If we do not ever make enter multicurrency transactions, can we run Adagio without having to install the multicurrency module?

Hi Sam,

No. You will need to have Adagio Multicurrency installed if you do not correct the MC setting in the company profile, before attempting to use in Adagio.

Go ahead and test at any single currency site. Simply attempt to open MC sample data for any company without the MC module installed and you will see. It's not a matter of having the transactions posted for the module in MC but rather correcting the MC flag in the company profile.

You can just get past the login and you will be told that MC is not installed. And then it's so sad, too bad.

It's not a difficult fix. Just use the GV R/W and a couple of cycles of DIC, and you're done. Or buy MC. This is the best free advice you can get.

Thanks Brian.
As you advise, I will give it a shot with GV-RW and DIC.
