A client uses Receivables with Invoices. They need to store 30 characters or so of instructions with each Shipto/Contact, so they can't use a Receivables Optional field. These instructions need to appear when entering an invoice, preferably on the Shipto tab. The only text fields on the Shipto tab other than the name and address fields are the Contact and the Email address, which are already being used. Their addresses are formatted.

A terrible workaround I came up with is to use the Description 2 field, which is also called Customer Name 2. To prevent this field from printing on the invoice in the address block, I require the client to never leave the field blank, even if it's just an "X". I then removed the Formatted Address Line 1 from all specs. It works, but I hate it!

Obviously, it would be nice if Shipto/Contacts had optional fields. Barring that, I would like to suggest a company profile option that would consider the Customer Name 2/Description 2 field to NOT be a formatted field, even if the formatted box is ticked.

So you are requesting that we change the logic and functionality of the second customer name and address printing on forms, for one client who just needs another comment field of 40 characters on a specific screen, to support a workaround that you don't even like? In the spirit of transparency, don't hold your breath on this one.

I can instead make a suggestion to R&D to include some larger 40-character comment field on the ship-to address screen in Adagio Invoices.

Or add optional fields to the Ship-to...

Either one works for me, whichever is easier for Softrak, so long as the comment field is also available on the Contacts tab of the customer master record, so it can populate on an invoice (like the Contact name does).

If you are going to go to the trouble of adding a comment field on the Customer Contacts tab and Invoices Shipto tab, then why not go all the way and add optional fields? They should really be there anyway.

Suggestion for Optional Fields added to Master ShipTo Address records, flowing to Invoices (and OE) transactions on the ShipTO tab has also be logged.

This would still have the 30 character maximum, for each of 3 Text optional fields. I presume this is enough.
