A Prospect is asking if we are able to enter a Tracking No. in the PO.
They order items from overseas, and when they create a PO #, besides entering the Expected Receipt Date, they would like to enter the Tracking # (when available) onto the PO.
There does not appear to be any specific field for this.

Is anyone doing this, and if yes, how are you managing this?

Yes, that will work.
We could always use an Optional field and then report on this through GV.
But I was just wondering if anyone is needing to track this already, and may have some advice.

Hi Samuel:

The key question is how they want to use the Tracking number. If they just want to see it on-screen and on the PO, then an Optional field will work. If they want to search by Tracking number, the Smart Finder will search Optional fields. If they want to sequence PO's by Tracking number, a Filter can be used to sequence by the Optional field. How do they want to use the Tracking number?

Hi Sam,

The Reference field on the PO header was considered initially as an alternative index that could be used for linking to paper requisitions like when users have a Paper PO book in their truck cab's and needed to cross reference to an actual PO. We always used for cross reference before optional fields were available.

It is only 12 digits and if your tracking number is 12 or less then that would work but but I'm thinking that if this is a tracking number from UPS then you're looking at 18 digits. FEDEX is 12. And most ocean freight tracking would be more than 12.

But Optional Text fields work too, as Bruce has suggested.

Best,
Brian

Bruce & Brian - thank you for your input.
I will speak with my Contact to see how he will use this information.
As this point, it seems that the Optional Field may be the way to go.
