A client asks this question:

When I hit the excel direct button, the resulting Excel workbook is always in table style medium 9. I would like it to always be table style light 1. I have tried setting this in Excel but it doesn’t seem to change the default. Is there something in Adagio that will allow it to default in Excel as desired?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Adagio does not provide any way to set default Excel table coloring.

When I Googled this question, I found a couple of threads that suggested creating a new default Excel template that has the desired table style enabled. And saved to the XLSTART folder within C:\Program Files\Office - somewhere. Then whenever a new Excel sheet is created in any way, including external sources such as MS Queries and presumably Excel Direct, the new table style will already be set up.

In Excel, you can right-click on a table style to 'Set as Default'.

i suspect this will be an Excel change rather than an Adagio change.

I could not figure out how to set the "default" Table Style in Excel..

We will add the ability to set the Table Style for Excel Direct in a future release.

SSI2XL.DLL is capable of exporting with or without formatting, but it's controlled by the Adagio app. It would require a change to each Adagio app and exposing that option. By the way, the Toolkit has a hidden setting that controls the output table format for that app.

Is there a way to remove the table formatting of the Excel Direct result?
I know how to remove it once the Excel Spreadsheet has been created. I would like to know if there has been any change since this post in 2015 when there wasn't any way to export to Excel without formatting.

Hi Patricia,

I think this thread https://softrak.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/27959/Re_Exporting_to_CSV_through_Co might help you. Andrew's second post in the thread talks about the settings that can be used in the INI file for the SSI2XL to export it in CSV format. Although he is answering how to do without Excel, you can set the program that opens the CSV to Excel.
Email me if you want the INI file I used to do it.

Thank you Dan; it is a good workaround. However, this setup would change for all the users on an RDP server. I would like to ask R&D to consider this option to be also setup at user level as there are an increase of use of RDP configurations.

The only Adagio program that currently allows defining the Excel Table layout style when exported with ExcelDirect is GridView.

The information regarding directing ExcelDirect to a different (non-Excel) output and other related material can also be found on a tech tip on our website. There is a facility to specify the Computer Name for determining which users get this behaviour, but I'm guessing your RDP requirements precludes this configuration.

You request has been forwarded to R&D. I imagine if this was to be set at a user-level, it would have to work not only for RDP but also the Cloud.
----
I see back in 2010, this section was made available to add to the SSI2XL.INI file, and not yet documented in the tech tip above. But again, I presume that using RDP precludes the user of the <windows user name> in this feature usage.

To turn off the creation of Excel 11 tables use
[DisableTableCreate]
<windows user name>=1

Support:

This might work as the Windows User Name is unique to the user, even on an RDP server.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Because this comes up occasionally...

Could someone explain to me what it is about the table formatting that people want it removed. Tables are one of the best things in Excel.
