Is there are a relatively elegant way to view the full assembly transaction, just knowing one piece of it (the assembly audit list is printed and purged regularly). That would include quantities and costs, as well as GL accounts.

I guess the ideal would be what Ledger can do where you highlight a transaction and double-click on it, and it brings up the whole journal entry.

I will insist that they enter something unique in the reference field when processing an assembly, which will allow me to use GridView to create a report, but only if I have to.

And if I have to, I'd like to make a suggestion that the there be YACPO* to force the reference field to be non-blank, or even better, warn when it's a duplicate.

I guess based on the non-response the answer is no.

I'm stumped - the client uses the reference field already. I can't think of a way, after the fact, to piece together the components that were used in an assembly, including the quantities and costs.

Any brilliant ideas?

I see that the IC Transaction History file has a field called "BOM Item". For assembly transactions (both the master item and components), it populates with the item being assembled. So I guess if an item is only assembled once during the day, I can pull it and its components onto a report by prompting for the assembled item and a date.

Hi Steve, in my previous life as a user of Inventory, i was never able to find a way to get that info after the fact. What we did was create a nightly batch file that runs a GV on the Item assembly audit list table, export to Excel, and use Console to print and clear the item assembly audit file after.
