When I try to send payment advice emails to vendors in AP I get the following error message: "either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client"

I had our IT person look at the problem and he verified the information was correct in the AP 'email setup' and he ensured Outlook is set as the default mail client, then directed me here for further help.

Prior to installing the GL Upgrade 9.2A (150119) the AP emails worked fine.

I am currently running Windows 7 Professional.

Hi, Denis,

I just tested this using both Direct and MAPI settings within Payables and all is working as it should.

Something else has changed at your office that is affecting this. The message you are receiving is not an Adagio message. It's from Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813745

Are you trying to send a single email or multiple. Even if your default email client is set, if sending multiple, it's possible your email client thinks you are trying to send spam.

Are you using MAPI as your email setting or Direct?

Is anyone else in your office able to email using Adagio? What about from Receivables or Invoices?

I'm using MAPI as my setting, however I did try changing it Direct and the test worked but attempting to send an email resulted in the same error message. I get the error message regardless if I attempt to send one email or many. We only have one other person that uses the Adagio system and she gets the same error message I do. We don't have any other modules that use emails, so we can't try that.

Hi, Denis,

Check your Outlook to determine if you're running 32-bit or 64-bit Outlook. Not sure what version you're using but click on the File tab and select Help if it is there or, if not, Office Account. If you've selected Office Account, click on the About Outlook icon next.

Adagio is a 32-bit application and will only communicate with 32-bit MAPI clients.

With respect to when you are using the Direct option, you need to ensure that the Port is what is actually being used. Adagio defaults to Port 25 but they may not be the case for all.

The Mail Server must be specified correctly.

As well, your email might require that the TLS/SSL option is enabled or require authentication.

Our IT person suggested that it may be a 64 bit vs. 32 bit thing as well, so thank you for confirming that. The Outlook I have is 64 bit, so we're going to be getting a 32 bit version installed in the next few days. I'll reply when it's done to let you know how it goes.

We installed the 32 bit version of Outlook 2013 and the problem is solved.

We did have a separate issue afterwards though where we kept getting a security message from Outlook appear for each outgoing email saying, a program is trying to send an email message on your behalf, if this is unexpected click deny, otherwise click accept. We were able to solve the issue by disabling the security prompts via a registry patch found at http://www.msoutlook.info/question/883.
