I'm trying to find an example of an IF formula in SAMDATA or some guidance on writing these formulas. I would like to add my intercompany balance sheet accounts, and dependent on whether they are positive or negative, appropriately class them into either the 'asset' section or the 'liability' section of balance sheet.

Thanks - Sue

The statement "GL!BankLOC.SAM" in the sample data demonstrates how to accomplish this. I've attached a ZIP of the statement if you cannot find it.

Toggle between periods 1 and 2 in 2006 to see the bank account move between sections.

The statement uses the "FormatHidden" to hide the row. Replace the FormatHiiden format with HighlightRed or some other Style to have the row change color rather than "disappear".

Thanks Andrew, however I still can't seem to get my result. I'm admittedly not that strong in F.R.

I need to to sum some accounts together. I have used:
=ADDEBIT("gldata.BAL",I89+I90)
where I89 is a $4,540 Dr and I90 is a $36,303 Dr;
so I would expect it to enter $40,843 in the cell, however it returns a 0
It is possible that the sum of these accounts could end up as a credit in which case I would use the =ADCREDIT("gldata.BAL",I89+I90) in the liability section.

I assume I'm not entering the correct formula for this circumstance?

Thanks - Sue

Hi Sue,

The second argument to the =ADDEBIT() and =ADCREDIT() functions is an account range, so I doubt that I89+I90 actually contain the GL account numbers of your bank account GL accounts. That might be the first problem. Usually the account ranges are in column "B". These functions return the amounts in the accounts if they are debits or credits respectively; otherwise 0.

In the Asset section of your financial statement you use ADDEBIT() and in the Liabilities section ADCREDIT(), with the bank account numbers in both sections. Then, use the suppress on zero option, or "FormatHidden" to hide the row if it is zero.

If you back up and send me your GL and the financial statement you are trying to get to work, I'll make the change.

Of course, then you'll be obligated to register for the Adagio Opportunity Conference preconference training on the Financial Reporter! wink

Hi Andrew, very nice gesture,

If I send the GL and financial statement on a reply in the support forum, does that go just to you or is it public information? Should I send it just by e-mail, to you at ?

Oh, and if I send you my report you have to promise to not have a heart attack. I'm sure you'll see it probably needs a lot of TLC which is on my upcoming bucket list. Unfortunately, I have a wedding when the 2014 conference is on so can't attend.

Thanks - Sue

Hi Sue,

You can just email it to me privately at my "abates" email address at softrak.com as long as the ZIP is not more than about 4 MBytes.

Don't post it on a reply to the Forum question. Those are public.
