Hi Heather,
The simple answer is to edit the company profile and from the System / Report Options tab, ensure that the option to Allow Posting Journal Purge is disabled. This means that running the Year End process will bypass the requirement to print and purge posting journals, and instead the files will automatically be deleted during Year End. But this presumes that you have been able to get a print out of all posting sequences for all posting journals.
When you try to print the posting journal, what is the timing of getting the message that there is nothing to print? This will help determine what the problem is. Do you get the message immediately upon selection of the posting journal from the menu? Or do get as far as the print report screen with a range of sequences to print, and clicking the Print button gives the message?
The problem in both cases is that the posting journal report file and the rest of the data has gotten out of synch. If you get the message immediately from clicking on the menu, then this means that the program data isn't expecting any posting journal at all, but the file was not cleared correctly when purging was selected. This is the more common scenario and following the advice above will solve the issue.
If you see a posting sequence on the print journal screen, then the program data is expecting to find information in the posting journal data file within the specified range, but the data file doesn't have it. This could be caused by manually deleting or otherwise losing the posting journal data file. In order to proceed, the above advice still holds, provided you have a copy of all information.
All posting journal data file names start with APPOST and should have 0 byte size if they have been purged correctly. Non-zero sized files will cause the Year End message to appear.
