I've been trying to find the Subtotal Amount Field from the Total Tab of Orders/Invoices in the Data Dictionary without luck. Does it exist or is it only a calculated field (from the Ext Price field in O/E Sales Order Detail)?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I'm guessing at the field you're referring to, but my guess would be that it's calculated. GridView can do the calculation too.

Yes, I know. I was setting up a view using the O/E Sales Order Header table and one of the fields was "Total Order Value". The problem I ran into was that this field only tallies items that have an order quantity. I can have returned items on an order: 0 Ordered; -1 Shipped. I had to set up another view from the O/E Sales Order Detail table and summarize each invoice. I thought I could link from the header table to the detail table but it's not available. I then tried from the detail table to the header table - success! But that now means I now have to insert six fields from the header into the detail instead of one field from the detail into the header, plus adjust formatting.

I realize that this has to do with database structures - it's just a pain. I just thought that since the Total Order Value field was calculated and available, then the value showing in the Subtotal Amount box might be available too.

Thanks

Thanks

Hi Mike,

If you were linking from the Header to the Detail, How would GV know which detail record you wanted? Links are almost always "driven" from the most detailed records back to the main record.

Have you checked some of the other amount fields on the header? Are you dealing only with orders, or can you do the reporting off invoices? There is a Total Invoice amount that would reflect the credit.

I'm dealing with invoices. I need to be able to display the Subtotal, HST, and Total. I guess I could work backwards and use a calculated field for the sub-total (Total - HST). Never thought of that - Friday brain freeze. But why have a Total Order Value field and not a Total Shipped Value field??

Well, a single order can generate multiple invoices, which is why you want the Total Order Value. If an invoice is cut, then there is a "Total Invoice Amount" field. However, this amount includes taxes and misc. charges, so often you'd like to back out those figures.
