How do you restrict a user from signing into an FX data set. We have set up groups and assigned users. We had assumed that if a group did not exist in a particular data set then that user would not be able to log in to that data set, but that does not seem to restrict them from signing in.

This is a network install and FX is pointing to G:\Softrak\system when we are creating data sets.

We have set the security so that users only have permission to open the data and view financial statements and we have restricted departments by user.

What are we missing?

If, for example, you have a dataset that has user groups XXXX and ZZZZ, and a user 'yy' who belongs to group YYYY, the user belonging to group YYYY will receive the following error message when they try to log into that particular dataset, "Unable to login. Group PRPRT assigned to user yy is not valid." When they respond Okay, the only toolbar buttons that will be available to them are the Open and Exit buttons.

If user yy is gaining access to the data in question, the user group they belong to also exists within that data.

Yes, that is the way I thought it worked. And after checking with the client and clarifying a misunderstanding - it works as advertised!
