Is there a way to deactivate an account for all departments, rather than having to deactivate each acct/dept combination one at a time? For example, we have acct 7000 set up for 30 departments and want to deactivate this account for all depts. Currently, I am making this account deactive by selecting 7000-01 and making it inactive, then selecting 7000-02, etc etc. Is there a way to say "make account 7000 inactive for dept range 1-30" or does this have to be done one-by-one?

Thank you,
Tanja

Hi Tanja

Do you know how to export a range of accounts to Excel, make the changes there, save the Excel file, and then import the changes? This would be the approach.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, let me know.

Steve

Did you try Edit Department and unticking Department active?

This from the Help:

Click this checkbox if the department is active. To make it inactive, turn this checkbox off by clicking it again to remove the checkmark and make the department inactive.

You can post to Active accounts. You cannot post to Inactive accounts. Therefore, transactions posted to inactive account/departments will be written to an error batch.

Steve's answer is the right one. You want to make inactive all departments for a specific account, and there isn't an automatic way to do this apart from exporting and reimporting the status change. It can be made easier with Default values on the import template.

Editing a department can make all accounts for a specific department inactive, but this isn't what you were looking for.

You are correct - I was not looking to make a department inactive, I was looking to make an account inactive for all (or a number of ) departments.

Thanks very much, the export/edit/import process sounds straight forward enough.

This thread is now RESOLVED.

Thank you!
