Tomorrow is the big day! Is anyone else out there working on changing over to HST? I know there are multiple ways to accomplish this and I'm thinking about the possibility of creating a separate Tax Group for every province. This would make it easy and flexibile especially when individual provinces change their tax rates.

I looked at the Softrak document for Changing Rates in Tax Groups in Adagio and it looks like that document is taking the approach to set up extra tax types. Maybe that would be easier?

HST is:
12% in BC
13% in ON, NB, NFLD
15% in NS
5% GST in the remaining provinces

What do you all think is the best approach? Tax Groups or Tax Types?

Susan:
There is a thread in the dealer portion of the forum on exactly this topic. As more provinces choose their own model, it increasingly makes sense to have a separate Tax Group for each province.

The dealer who started the thread, Brian Puddington, has made this change and finds that it can easily accommodate future changes and that his clients find it clearer than a multitude of Tax Types. I agree with his approach.

Hi Bruce,

I don't think I have access to the dealer section. Can someone copy his post here for me?

There weren't any specifics, only that a number of dealers are of the opinion that the optimal setup is to have a separate Tax Group for each province (or at least for each province you sell into). Makes it easier to understand and maintain the tax tables if any more changes are required down the road.

Okay thanks Ryan. I was thinking that as well. I'll try it with back up data first and test out a few invoices and credits, then go live. Thanks.
