I set up a Windows Terminal Server with a primary partition that has Windows installed on it (C:\drive) and an extended partition that holds the Adagio software and databases. I assigned drive letter 'I:' to that logical drive on that partition. We used to have a Netware volume mapped as the I: drive on client computers and I didn't want to screw up any path variables.
When I performed the initial Adagio workstation install on the Terminal Server after logging in as a user, a pop-up message appeared saying somehting along the lines of "This product is supposed to be run from a network drive like 'F:' or 'H:'. Your 'I:' drive is not a network drive. Do you want to proceed?".

The install finished without errors and I seem to be able to run Adagio without problems.

My question: is there any reason why this wouldn't work? Does it really matter whether or not the I: drive is a network drive or a local drive? I've read about users running Adagio locally on an XP machine...

Any insights or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andre

Hi Andre,

Adagio can be run with the programs installed on a local drive. It will work just fine, and that is how I have my installation. Usually these are situations where only one person/workstation will be using Adagio.

You received the message 'This program is supposed to be run from a network drive...' when running the workstation setup application, not the Adagio program itself. This is because a 'typical' multi-user installation has the programs on a network, and each user accessing Adagio from their own workstation. One type of installation that doesn't follow this 'typical' configuration is a peer-peer network, where the 'server' is also used as a workstation. It is this configuration for which the message you received was tailored for.

As long as all of the users in your Terminal Server environment 'see' the Adagio program folder with the 'I:' drive mapping, there shouldn't be any expected problems. Please post back if you find that problems have occurred.

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, all users can see the (local) I: drive. I gave full access rights to all locally defined users on that Terminal Server. (This is a standalone test server, not connected to any domain or directory service - and is similar to how we intend to run the 'live' server.). We just tested EDIsoft's Merchant software and it appears to work just fine - just like all the other Adagio modules.
We'll do some more testing tomorrow by having two users enter multiple new orders into Order Entry at the same time. We want to make sure there are no data integrity issues in a multi-user environment.
I'll report back once we're done with testing. I'll be in a training class for most of next week - so it may take me a week or two to post my report.
