Due to a hardware upgrade, we will need to move Adagio software and data from a old server to a new one.

My plan is to install the Adagio software onto the new server and copy the data over. But from my testing, it only moves the group information over not the user accounts. is there a solution for moving both of them?

What is the best way to move Adagio ?

Thanks

Henry

Hi Henry

Unless you use the server as a workstation, you don't have to re-install Adagio from scratch. You can simply copy the contents of the \Softrak folder (and all subfolders) from the old server to the new one. I would recommend creating and sharing a folder called Adagio on the new server and copying the contents there.

On each workstation, re-map the Adagio drive from the old server to the new server, preserving the same drive letter if at all possible. If not possible, then you will have to re-install Adagio.

I don't work for Softrak, so this is an unofficial suggestion. But my experience is that it works and is the easiest approach.

Will this trasfer work for Purple?

Also, since I installed our current Adagio data and program on a shared network folder from a PC (Master PC) and do I need to keep this PC for patching and upgrading the Adagio software?
If this master PC is dead, how could I re-build it.

Hi Henry

I think it will work for Purple (PO for Adagio) - you might have to perform a workstation install under \Softrak\POWIN\WkSetup.

No, you don't need to keep the PC. Once Adagio is installed from a workstation to a shared network folder, it doesn't matter which workstation was used when it comes to maintenance.

Copying the \softrak folder to a new location (local or server) may have bad ramifications if one or more of the workstations are Windows Vista. I have experienced this first-hand, specifically with the uninstall portion.

This is definitely not recommended if the drive mapping to the server will change, as Steve indicated.

In additio0n to copying the \softrak folder, copy the \qrasp folder.

As Steve and Softrak Support have pointed out, this only works if the drive letter mapping is identical to that used previoulsy.

I copied both \softrak and \qrasp folders, was able to install the following program without a problem
contacts
datacare
purple
gridview
order entry
legder

But I recevied "setup error!" when I tried to install the following programs

banrec
inventory
payables
receivables

here is the error message for Inventory

The Report Table drive (Z:) does not have the Adagio Inventory Tables installed ( invalid \qrasp\qrtables.ini). Please check taht you have selected the proper directory and if necessary, re-install Adagio Inventory

FYI, we are using the same driver letter.

Please help !

Copying program directories around is definitely "not recommended" under Windows (Vista or oterwise). Installation does too many things.
