I have uploaded Budget from a comma delimited file and it appears to be loaded. HOWEVER, the budget for Period 1 is showing as the Period 3 budget on the Financial Reporter [/b]and the year to date budget only shows this same Feb, period 1 total. If I re-run the statement with either Feb or March, the budget shows up as zero.

Our year end is January 31st and we are currently working on the April 30th month end. I tried uploading the file using a sign in date as February 1 and tried a second time using a sign in date as April 30th. No difference in the results.

The previous version was uploaded about this same time of year with no problems.

Hi, Lynn,

You didn't say, what version of GL are you using to do your import with? You can get the version(release date) by selecting Help | About from the main menu. It sounds like GL9 but I'lld need confirmation.

Hello:

Import processes are rather particular about things.

First, when you are importing, what fields (columns) are selected? Open the "Import Budgets" screen and look on the tab called "Field Selections". You really only need 14 fields: Account, Department & 12 monthly Budget figures.

Secondly, one way to make certain that an Import file is correct, is to Export it first. You could Export the Budget (again ensuring that only 14 fields are selected), fill in the missing months and then Import it back.

NB: These notes apply only to Ledger version 9.0. If you are using 8.1 or older, the Import process is different.

Hi Lynn,

You may want to ensure that the import template matches the file containing the budget numbers. If you indicate that the expected number in period 1 is actually showing up in period 3, you should check the field values in the file and make sure that they match up with the Import template fields.

Also make sure that there aren't any extra commas in the import file - that could mess up putting the right amounts in the right fields. Naturally, the amount '1,000.00' should not have the comma in a comma-separated import file - but '1000.00' instead.

Also take a look at the budget numbers from the Edit Budgets function, to determine if the numbers in the data is wrong, or perhaps your financial statement is wrong.

Import budgets in Ledger 90A goes to a specific year as specified on the Default Fields screen. Make sure you are importing your budget to the correct fiscal year.

I did not use the import template option, changed new template name to Budget New.

This same file was used last year, the only thing I changed was the numbers, and to add any new accounts, I carefully copied the row before changing. The budget showing for the current month (period 3) is exactly the budget numbers for (period 1) and if I change the date to March there is zero for the budget numbers.

Should I give up and add all the budget numbers by hand?

There should be instructions if the procedure has changed from Version 8.1 to Version 9.

Hi Lynn,

The only 2 things that changed for importing budgets are:
1) The location - File/Import Account Budgets instead of File/Import Accounts.
2) You can import to a selected Fiscal Year from the Default fields screen.

Other than that, importing budgets is the same as it was in Ledger 8.1A. Instructions can be found in the Help file and the Import Notes link.

I assume that your field value layout in your import file is account, department, period 1 budget, period 2 budget, ... , period 12 budget. Is this correct? And if you look at the Import Budget template that isn't working for you, on the Import Field Selection screen, this should be the same order. If one doesn't match the other, then there is the issue.

Hi:

Lars has given me the solution. The template for Version 8.1 had 2 columns with headers as account and dept. The new Version 9, does not have these 2 columns. Once the 2 columns were deleted and the file was re-imported, the budget was okay.

Thanks
Lynn
