When viewing reports in the G/L, is it possible to have the current fiscal year appear by default? We always seem to have to change it from 2007 to 2008 to view the current data. I thought it would somehow use the entry date as a base for displaying the proper year :o).

Thanks
Karin

Is the 'Next Year' 2008? Which reports do you mean financial statements or others like Detail Listing?

Indeed the Detail Listing / Trial Balance reports default the Current Year rather than today's year. This can be added as a suggestion to default to today. Financial Statements will default the year from your login date.

Our current year is 2008 (Jan-Dec). We have 2006/2007/2008 appearing as options but would like 2008 to appear by default rather than 2007 which now appears. We just recently closed our 2007 year and assumed the default would change to 2008, but it hasn't...

The reports that affect us the most are:
- View Transaction/Budgets
- Trial Balance
- Detail Listing

Thanks
Karin

Hello Karin,

The default year and fiscal period for these reports is based on the session date. What date are you using when you start up Ledger?

Hello Karin,

Do you see a ‘Next Year’ button in the button bar.

My guess is that 2007 IS still the current year in your data.

You have to run ‘Close Current Fiscal Year’ before 2007 will be considered the ‘Prior Year’.

You guys are GOOD!
For some reason we were certain we'd completely closed the year but were still showing a "Next Year" button. We followed your really helpful Y-E instructions but must have missed a step along the way! (see http://www.softrak.com/pdf/technicaltips/Month-YearEnds.pdf)

We've now "Closed the Current Year" and the Fiscal Date shows 2008 as it should be when selecting reports!

Thanks!

Hello KNoel,

In case anyone is wondering why there are two separate functions to close the P&L accounts, and to close the year; this allows people with departmentalized general ledgers to close each department at separate times before actually closing the entire year.

I'm glad that everything is now working properly.
