I am having a problem with a client who has the latest Order Entry and Inventory etc,. When they try to find an item in a second copy of Order Entry while doing an order on another workstation, they get a message saying:"INTERNAL ERROR. FILE HAS NOT BEEN OPENED" This error message is in an Order Entry box. They have Lanpak/05 and we ran the chksys utility which reports on errors. Any ideas?

Hi pwc,
I could not duplicate the error message being received when having two copies of OrderEntry open on a single machine, where one copy is editing an order and the other copy has the Edit Items screen open and the Find button is selected. Also if I try to use SmartFinder. I am using sample data and everything is installed on a local drive.

Is this the situation you are describing, or something else? If different then please describe the steps taken to duplicate the problem.

What else is running on the workstation? Could there be memory-intensive applications like Outlook or Excel? Is the virus checker running in the background? More information is needed.

They are using two different machines, not two windows open on the same one.

What version of Adagio OrderEntry (including service pack release) is in use? A particular issue with record locking was fixed with the July 2005 OrderEntry service pack, though the error message was different than what you have reported. Please make sure the current service pack is installed (OE 8.0A - 050908). In fact, the fix had to do with the database interface file rather than the OE application specifically.
If the error continues to occur with the current service pack installed, please post here the exact function and timing of when the error occurs. Is it when the Find button on the Edit Items screen is clicked? Or using a finder or smart-finder field?

Also, what version of Adagio Inventory is installed? 8.0A or a previous version. Please also post the exact service pack version if the problem persists.

The following Adagio modules are in use:
Order Entry 8.0A (050908)
Inventory 8.0A (051201)
Ledger 8.0C (050908)
Receivables 8.0A (051124)
Multicurrency 8.0C (050930)

Adagio is installed on a peer-to-peer network with 3 Windows XP workstations and a Lanpak/05 installed.

After further investigation it appears that the problem is related to using the smart-finder to search for an item in either the Order Entry or the Inventory module when more than 1 user is accessing the item file. A problem occurs if 2 users try to enter orders at the same time. One user will get an error when using the smart-finder. This pops up after the smart finder search seems to be completed.

Alternately, if 2 users are editing the item file in the Inventory module at the same time, 1 user will get an error when using the smart-finder.

The error message seems to vary. As well as the original error reported, some other error messages observed are: ?Access violation at address 00404118 in module OEWIN.EXE. Read of address 000000084? or ?Invalid pointer operation? or ?External exception?.

Hi PwC,

While I will offer some suggestions below, please double check with Softrak as I am not certain that our situations are related as you seem to have more varied error messages than I remember.

I also have a client who periodically experiences similar problems when using the Finders in OE (and AR). This was in a Win2K3 Server environment with Win2K/WinXP Pro workstations and CheckSys reporting no problems.

The problems seem to have been sorted when we removed the following Finder related files:

??FCTL'I.xxx
??FCTL'R.xxx
??F###'I.xxx (eg. "OEF001'I.DAT")
??F###'R.xxx (eg. "OEF001'R.DAT")

These files are recreated on loading the relevant module and when the Finders are invoked.

Try moving (rather than deleting) these files to a temporary location , exit and restart the module and test again.

Unfortunately, after a while the problem recurrs and the files have to be removed again. It appears that the finder files are being corrupted in some way and may be more noticeable on networks with large data and multiple users performing many finder searches.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Pete

Thanks for the response Pete but I think we have solved the problem with a more basic approach.

We noticed that all the users were logging into Adagio with the same user id and password and suspected that the smart-finder was having a problem with the same user accessing the same database from 2 workstations at the same time. Once we ensured that all users were logging in with individual user id's the errors did not re-occur.
