Boy, I am prolific today.

We have been using the Fixed Assets module for a long time (I think we started with Version 6.1A).

For about four years, the End of Period Reconciliation has not matched the Depreciation Journal in three of our eight classifications (it's the Depreciation Journal that is right). We have let it go for all this time and have just made sure that the discrepancy is the same each month.

Is there any way to force a change in the End of Period Reconciliation so that they actually reconcile.

ITEM 2 - Will there ever be an Adagio Fixed Assets???

Thanks again for the help.

Hello Eric,

I can't answer the questions about the reconciliation problem, but I can say that the decision about "Adagio FixedAssets" has not yet been taken. We'll review where we stand after we have shipped Bank Reconciliation and have all the modules at V8.0 (multi-currency enabled). This would mean (at least) a year before we take a look at where this might fit in the R&D priorities.

Hello Eric,

No, you cannot force a change by editing to ensure that they balance. The amounts are printed from totals stored with the assets.

Does the total for Current Depreciation on the Depreciation Journal match the Total on the End of Period Reconciliation Report?

Have you done an Integrity Check on the data?

The total for Current Depreciation on the Depreciation Journal does indeed match the Total for Current Depreciation on the End of Period Reconciliation Report. This is a four year old problem, so the discrepancy is in the Opening and Ending Depreciation on the End of Period Reconciliation Report.

In fact, one of the classifications is 100% depreciated and the Accumulated Depreciation is $40.69 more than the Acquisition Cost!! (NOTE: no Section 179 deductions were taken so it is not a matter of the difference between Acquisition Cost and Depreciable Value [Basis].)

I have done Integrity Checks on the data numerous times. There are no errors with the data.

Is there SOMETHING I can do?

Thanks for the input.

Hello Eric,

My guess that the Classification on some assets was changed and that the classification file was not updated properly. The classification file contains totals for the Opening and Ending Depreciation amounts.

If you change the Classification on an asset using the current version of Fixed Assets, the End of Period Reconciliation Report will show that the old and new Classifications have been updated. The transfers show up in Changes and in Adjusted Depreciation.

You cannot edit the Classification code to modify the totals.

To fix the error:
1. You could export your assets out and import them into a new dataset. All of your assets will be treated as Acquisitions in the new dataset.

2. We may be able to repair the data. If you send the data to me with a description of the categories affected, I will forward it to a Database Repair Technician for evaluation.

Let's try Option 2. Tell me what to send you and how.

Thanks.
