When recalculating Financial statements (or modifying format) it takes FOREVER ... well, at least two to 5 minutes to recalculate. During this period, CPU utilization goes steadily at 10-25%, the program acts as if it were not responding and you can't scroll or do any other modifications. These are specs converted from ACCPAC, approx 15 pages long. We are using the latest version and upgrade 6.8B (021120). Help! tHis is extremely frustrating and bordering on unuseable, taking hours to make changes. It is the same on all computers connected to the LAN, (mainly PIII 600's), and these computers seem fine on large Excel spreadsheets (recalculate in a second or 2), Groupwise, Wordperfect, etc. Thank you!!

Hi Kevin,

I would imagine a large Adagio Financial report would have slower performance versus a similar size Excel spreadsheet. This is because Excel has it's values embedded into the spreadsheet, whereas the Financial report uses a link for every cell to read data from a separate database.

If you were to make a copy of your Ledger data and bring it to your local workstation, and attempt to perform the same functions, do you still see the same performance? If not, then perhaps your network cards/hubs cannot handle the data transfer appropriately. We strongly recommend 100base-T cards and hubs rather than 10base-T. Regardless of the speed of the machines, network speed with have a vast influence over performance.

If the local copy of the data also performs very slowly, that's a different story. Please let us know should this be a problem.

Hi Kevin,

This timing isn't reasonable. Michael Mulrooney in our office will help you track down the problem. I have contacted you via e-mail.

Thanks for your assistance. We have tracked the issue down to network card speed setting on the server (took us down to 75 seconds response time) and connecting to a 100mb switch as opposed to a regular hub (took us down to 35 seconds). Not as fast as Excel, but workeable now. Thanks!!!!

Hi Kevin,

Glad to hear it was a hardware issue!

FWIW, it's not really fair to compare the Financial Reporter to Excel (even though they look quite similar). The Financial reporter has to read and calculate the various balances you need from you General Ledger data. Excel is working by referencing cell values entirely in memory.

Any suggestions for improving Ledger?
