Is there a way to import a budget file and a forecast file? I have our budget file straightened out, but this is generally imported once per year. We also use rolling forecasts, which change from month to month. I haven't been able to find a field setting that would allow me to input what is essentially a second budget.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Hi Steve,

One idea I've seen work before is to create a new department specifically for the forecast (next year) budget. It's easy to to this with Adagio Ledger - just copy an existing department and all the accounts at the same time. Then enter the forecast values as budget amounts for this new department. You wouldn't ever post actual values to this department.

There will be an easier way to handle all of this in the next upgrade for Adagio Ledger.

I have faced this issue a few times, and the most workable method I have devised is to use the existing budget buckets for the forecast values. Then create a new set of acct/depts making the acct/dept identical to the real acct/dept but put "B" before the acct code (e.g. B4000 instead of 4000). Make these "B" accounts inactive. Import the original budget figures here.

The advantage of doing this is that you only have to fool around with the B accounts once per year. Also, you can easily design financial statements to strip off the B prefix, showing the original and forecast figures in adjoining columns on a financial statement. If you need help doing this, I could send you an example.
