Does anyone know how to password protect an installed Softrak program, in particular "invoices".

Thanks

Hello Kim:

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you or Debbie access Invoices as the SYS user, you will have full access to adjust users' rights. In particular, you use the Group Setup option to define Group(s). Each Group will have its own set of functions that you allow it to perform. Then you go to the User Setup option to link each User with the appropriate Group.

For instance, you could have a "Clerical" Group who can only do certain things and a "Mgmt" group that is allowed to do more. Then you edit User 1 and indicate which Group defines their capabilities. Then User 2 and so on.

You might want to consider these changes in co-ordination with setting up security on all modules.

I was at her old computer and was cleaning it up for someone else to use and unfortunately deleted the "invoice" program using Add/Remove Programs. It removed perfectly (yikes) but 2 other programs had a pop-up window that asked for a password (which I liked in the event something like this happens again).

I think the Groups (Sys and Clerical) are set up correctly .. was just concerned with the program being uninstalled.

Hi Kim:

Adagio doesn't require a password to uninstall, as you discovered. If you are logged into the computer as a user with sufficient rights, then you can delete applications from Add/Remove. Actually the 2 applications requiring passwords would be the exception rather than the rule.

Now the good news: First, deleting an application from a user's computer does not delete the data from the server. Secondly, Adagio makes it very easy to run the workstation installation again. It would take less than 5 minutes to re-install everything.

Yes it wasn't the data that we had the issue with. It was the ability to remove the software, without a password (which to me would be a nice feature). We were able to run the installation again, once a new license was issued.

Thanks for your time.

Hi imbing,

You'll need to talk to Microsoft about password protecting software removal. Actually, my guess is that there's probably a security setting that would preclude removing an application, but I have not idea what it might be.
