I am looking at upgrading to Adagio from Accpac Plus early in the New Year (darn those new cheque printing specs).

I was told that Opportunistic Locking has to be off on the server and workstations.

We will be using AP/AR and GL. No two people will be posting batches in the same module at the same time as each person has their own area of responsibility.

The question is do I still have to turn Opportunistic Locking off. I have been running with it on for Accpac Plus for the last 15 years, most recently on a Windows NT server. I did find that when I turned it off that performance of Accpac Plus was much slower, which is why I leave it on.

Thanks

The performance of ACCPAC was slower becasue the record locking was actually working correctly.

In ACCPAC Plus, if only noe person was in the data at one time, there was limited chance of corruption of the data because the DOS program could not perform more than one function at a time.

In Adagio, being a Windows-based program, multiple windows can be open at once, so the chances of data corruption are much higher if op locks are enabled.

It is such an issue that Adagio modules check for it every time you start a module.

(By the way, almost all database programs have encountered the same issue.
