I have created a Stock report which is perfect but for one detail. I have used the Table "IC Items (1,3) Master. I need to access one piece of information from the "IC Items (2) Additional - the vendor code. Can I draw information from another table to complete my report?

Hi Marion,
GridView only displays information from one data file at a time unless the dictionary was created to merge more than one file, as is the case with the 'IC Items (1,3) Master' dictionary. So when using this particular table, you won't be able to get the Vendor code from the 'Additional information' section because it is stored in a separate file.
GridView ships with a number of 'combined' tables, listed in the module selection screen as 'Composite Tables'. This is where you can select from pre-defined combinations of tables - one of which combines the IC Item file, the IC Additional Item (2) file and the IC category file. It is called "IC Item w Additional, Category". Another composite table includes all of this and the Item 'quantity by location' so you can get quantities by item at each separate location.
However, what this means is that you cannot 'convert' your view to a different table, but you would have to re-define it from the start. Don't delete the view you've already worked hard on - it can be used for copy/paste or export formulas you've already done.

Thanks for the response. I had already tried the composite tables, but I am unable to get the required combination of fields. My stock report lists only items in stock and includes Qty OH, On PO and on SO and then, in the final column called "SELL" adds the items on hand to items on PO and subtracts items on Sales order in order to show what is available to sell. The vendor code column is a necessary reference because our internal code does not always match the vendor's code. It looks like I will have to learn to live without the vendor code on my report. Too bad.
I have a host of other reports that I created and used in Acc Pac (Report Master) that drew information from more than one table. Should I be looking at Crystal Reports in order to be able to re-create them?

Hi Marion,
We can add that item to the View for you. When creating the composite tables, we chose to expose only those fields we thought were most likely to be used, in order to help the problem of "field choice overload". I'll try and make sure it's included in the next service pack for GridView. You might also onsider creating a View showing the specific information fields you need from that table, and linking to it from the first View. (This workaround works if you are not trying to filter on the Vendor Item Number.)
As a general rule, Crystal Reports for Adagio has all the fields in all the tables exposed and linkable. It is the reporting tool of choice when presentation is important and speed is less of an issue.
OK?

Did you try composite table
Adagio (Composite Table 8.0C) using *IC Item w Additional, Category.
I believe that the Vendor Code is available.

I did try Adagio (Composite Table 8.0C) using *IC Item w Additional, Category. but it doesn't allow me to get quantities OH, on PO or on SO which are key to my report. Thanks, though!
I'm in "Kindergarten" as far as creating reports, so I haven't yet tried to "link", as Andrew suggests. My filter, which I call "Stock" is: {Qty On Hand} +{Qty on PO} >1. I am not filtering on the Vendor item #.
I don't know how to create a link yet, so I'll have to try and figure it out!

I just realized I was using the term "Vendor Code" when I really meant "Vendor Item Number" which is the field I need in my report for reference next to our own item number. When I had a closer look, neither of the Composite Tables had it available. I was reading Vendor Code and thinking Vendor Item Number. I'd better learn the proper terminology!

Final Post on this report from me. I found every field I needed in this table:
I/C Items Finder (Read/Only)
My report is now exactly as I need it. I didn't even look there originally because it said "Read Only" so I didn't think I could extract from it. But I could. Problem solved!
