I am having difficulty with producing a departmental report in the financial reporter. Consolidated works fine, but when I try to switch to departments only the first one shows and it won't allow me to select it. I am puzzled - I think it(FR) may be broken. Any thoughts? I appreciate any ideas - I am on the latest GL.

Hi Sandra,

The list of departments in the financial reporter is stored in the file GLDTREE.xxx - if you delete the file it will be re-created from the list of departments save in the general ledger. Only do this if you have not set up any ranges or department masks.

Otherwise, can you ZIP your data and send it to me?

Hi Andrew,

I tried with the file, but it didn't recreate. I am trying to use the smartsheet capabilities to set up a report that I can use on both a consolidated basis and on a departmental basis. Ideally, that is, in a perfect world, the ranges I have set up would print the g/l detail with a subtotal, but consolidated would be for the company, and department would be for the department. Because I can't get the department drop down to work on a blank, or for that matter, any report, I don't know if what I want to do can be done in the manner that I am trying to do it. I don't really want to zip my data to you although I do appreciate the offer. Am I correct in my understanding of how this should work ?

Thanks for your help.

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

GLDTREE stores your department ranges and wildcard masks. If you don't have any of those, this file isn't necessary. What happens when you View | Departments? You mention a "blank department". Have you added this department into your Department file? You must have all your departments set up in the general ledger department file, with names, for them to be available on the drop down in the financial reporter.

Hi Andrew,

I pushed enough buttons in the right order to make the departments show up - yippee! If you can interpret my previous nattering regarding printing of details at the departmental level I would appreciate your advice.

Thank you.

Hi Sandra,

Yes - this is exactly the way the financial reporter is meant to work. If you are printing out a whole set of statements for different departments at the end of the month, set them all up oin a statement group.
