We have recently updated a user to Windows 98 and when that user runs Datacare it crashes every day with the following message.

Error : Operating system limit reached. There are too many open files.

Then we get this after.
Cannot open f:\fsd\aprtng'1.fsd

This is not always the file name.

I ran manual Data Integrity checks and the data is OK. Datacare is the program that is causing us problems.

IS this a File or Buffers issue. Do you need a Files = or Buffers = statement in the Autoexec.bat file?

Any clues to what may cause this?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

You're on the right track. The reason for this message is likely due to a missing statement 'Files=250' which should be in the config.sys file (or config.nt for NT workstation users). If there is a number smaller than 250, then you should change to 250. Making this change should fix things up.

The other file mentioned is simply one of your data files; you don't have to worry about anything wrong here.
