I need a formula that will give me the total amount posted for a certain income statement account since it's inception (in 2017). The description in SuperSpec90 says that TOTPOST gives the "lifetime to date posted amounts", but it's not including anything that's been posted in the current year. What is an alternate formula that I can use?

Thanks
Jean

Hi Jean,

If you open Edit Accounts in Ledger and use the Column Editor to include the 'Total Posted' field, it is this value that is maintained throughout multiple years that is reported by the TOTPOST token in the Financial Reporter. If these values match (as they should) but is not the value that you were expecting, that would imply that all batches in Ledger have not yet been posted in Ledger, to update the Total Posted amount to what you wanted. Or there may be some explanation as well.

When I post batches in Ledger, the Total Posted value is immediately updated on the account master records, and this is the value reported by TOTPOST.

You'll need to determine whether what you are seeing for this particular income statement account is unique to this account, or general over more or all accounts. This might give you some assistance in how to proceed. A report writer is only as good as the underlying data.

In the Financial Reporter, you can always combine together, such as TOTPOST and Y, using two separate GLAMT formulas added together.

So the issue was that my prior year was not closed yet, so I had both the current and next year open. I'm not sure why that should be an issue but I was able to close my prior year and now the formula is picking up all posted transactions. For whatever reason TOTPOST does not include "next year" transactions even though they have been posted.
