I am having a problem where Excel Direct does not work on a new PC (Window 10 PC Version 1709 OS Build 16299.371 | Excel 2016 ).

Modules - Payables 9.3A 171027 , Receivables 9.2A 170726 , Sales Analysis 9.2A 170904 , Ledger 9.3A 171102 , Order Entry 9.2A 170710.

When the button is press on each occurrence nothing happens.


Any idea what's going on here?

What is the version of MS Office on the new PC? There is a known issue with pre-installed versions of MS Office Home and Business that causes this problem.

The Office Version is Microsoft Office Professional 2016.

If it came pre-installed your registry settings may not have been updated properly for Adagio to find Excel. Either way, you can refer to this document for help:

The document is very helpful but there is no LocalServer32 folder in the registry as outlined or even the InprocServer32 folder.

I have checked the old Adagio systems and those entries are there.

I hope Softrak is going to look at alternate ways of addressing this, rather than asking everyone under the sun to re-install office, which is what will eventually be suggested here. This is becoming a common problem.

I have Office Professional 2016 on my machine and it works. However, I installed the full version from the download. If yours was upgraded from an older version or pre-installed with the computer, it may need to be reinstalled as Warren has indicated. It may be the quickest solution.

A complete install of Office/Excel updates the registry with the expected entries. The "pre installed" version of Office ( Professional or Home & Office) does not. A support ticket was opened with Microsoft Development and they have come back with a this question.
"Has Excel been ACTIVATED on the stations in question"

I presume the answer is "Yes" but please confirm.

Michael I can't speak for the others but the answer in my case is yes. Like you I would suspect that the answer in all cases is yes as from what I remember, one can't really use a properly licensed version of the product unless activated.

A repair of the office Application fixed the issue and the missing registry entries were found afterwards.

Did the "repair" option (or any other option) work for anyone running on a recently (2018) purchased PC with pre-installed Office 2016 H&B running on Windows 10 Pro ??? Because this did not work for me.

Btw - after speaking with Dwaine, it appears the real "resolution" for him was after he installed an older Office 2013 product in addition to the pre-installed Office 2016. Now Excel Direct launches Excel 2013, while the Office 2016 products continue to work otherwise.

While that might be a viable workaround in many cases, can Softrak please indicate if you feel that this "pre-installed Office 2016" Excel Direct Issue is something you think will be resolved and in what sort of time frame ?

This "issue" is not being researched at the moment.
A support ticket was opened with Microsoft but cancelled when it was reported "A repair of the office Application fixed the issue and the missing registry entries were found afterwards."

We will start looking into this once again but do not expect a resolution anytime soon.
