I've done a couple of upgrades, and I want to point out to everyone a few things, sorry if they are too obvious

1) The conversion takes a LONG time. Don't expect to just install the upgrade, convert the data, and be on your way.
2) You should change the Company Profile option in AR to allow more than 30 characters in the customer name
3) If you are going to use the new address format (which I strongly recommend), you will need to change every OE spec to use the new Billto and Shipto formatted address codes. Also, you will want to expand the customer name field from 30 characters to 40, and the Reference (usually used for the customer's PO) field from 12 characters to 24 on each spec.
4) Visit the OE Company Profile screen and synch the Address Option settings to those in AR Company Profile

Other pointers encouraged here...

Steve

Hi Steve,

I think this should be on its own thread, so I've done that.

Thanks for the observations.

I'd also add that it's very important to review the Release Note for this Upgrade before undertaking the project.

The release notes are very dense, and while they were extremely well written and I was able to absorb them, I venture to say that most readers will get lost in the weeds. Also, it took me an hour to read (I can imagine how long it took to write).

A five minute "beware" video would be helpful. This would not be a video designed to show new features, only to explain potential pitfalls that may result during and after conversion. It would be referenced in a popup window that would appear as part of the upgrade, just as there is a popup window referencing new features following an upgrade.

I don't either. My point is that one has to wade through a LOT of "irrelevant" information in the release notes to figure out what the potential pitfalls are.

The relevancy of the information in the Release Note is dependent on the site at which the module is installed.

That is why many Adagio sites rely on the assistance of their Adagio Consultant to install and implement their upgrades.

Steve:

The relevancy of the Release Notes is also dependent upon the readers knowledge and understanding of how to implement the new features. Like me, you are an extreme expert so our take on the level of relevancy in the Release Notes will be much different that the typical users.

Thanks for posting your take on the pitfalls.

And an important note as a result of this post from Rick McLeod:
  • Make sure that every user has "Auto add lines" enabled in their User Preferences

Hi, Steve,

You are also able to review the ModuleReadme help file, which is essentially the Release Note. In the Enhancements, you'll find it incorporates various links to information grouped by function. This helps to make the amount of information seem, perhaps, less intimidating.

As well, it often has additional info in it such as older Upgrade information.

The URL for the Release Notes in Andrew's post of 1/11results in Internal Server error.
The reference to the post from Rick McLeod in Andrew's 1/12 post results in "Houston, we have a problem"
