Tony: I know that if you re-install CRA, it will recognize the database. But I'll bet that Technical Support can provide, not only a short-cut, but also an explanation of why installation sequence matters.

Ok, reinstalled CRA, no joy, still getting the same message. Odd...current reports that use IC still work!

Hi Tony, There is a file in the C:\windows\crystal folder that indentifies which global files can be used as database selectors when creating new reports with Crystal Reports for Adagio. Typically this means all Adagio products and not 3rd party applications. If you get the 'unrecognized database' message, this usually means the particular global file is not on the list. The reason for this list is so that the correct table(s) can be loaded for the application by checking the global file and the offset for the version number. Another reason for getting this error is that the global file has an invalid size (ie is corrupt), so when Crystal goes to look for the version, it finds something it isn't expecting and bails. A typical DIC won't find this, but DataCare with field checking will. When an application needs to load a new table or gets a new internal version, it updates the local Crystal file mentioned above. This is why you would install applications after Crystal Reports.

Hi: OK, I'll be Tony for a moment! If the file was damaged, then re-installing CRA should repair the file. But does that mean that he now has to re-install ALL of his Adagio applications?! If the problem was simply that the specific Global file was not on the "list", what action would have fixed that issue?

Hi Bruce, The damaged file in question I am referring to is the global file, not the Crystal file. When running workstation setup for any Adagio application, it will check the file date for the file (p2irssi.cfg) and overwrite if more current - typical for any windows install. Thus run the workstation setup for the most current Adagio app and you are done - don't have to do for every Adagio app. It may be useful to know if the create report problem exists for new reports on any IC data (including sample data) or just particular companies. It may be that the workstation setup was not performed while logged in as the user of the station. I cannot duplicate the problem - I can create new reports on IC data.
