I've been trying to get Email to work properly on a Window Server 2012 R2 system, using RDP. It tests OK when I do the email test using the domain administrator account. However, when I use a user account, even if I have them set to have local administrator rights, and run Adagio As Administrator, the test fails.

Is there a troubleshooting document regarding email setup?
Can someone give me a description of the steps that Adagio goes thru during the email test?
Someone mentioned that some email information is kept in the registry. Is there a document that lists what registry keys Adagio needs access to?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello PGS,

A couple of questions:
  1. MAPI or Direct?
  2. Exchange or some other email server?
  3. Have you confirmed that basic email is working for the user in that environment?

This type of problem can be difficult to troubleshoot over the Forum. Some assistance from your Adagio Consultant might be helpful.

My Adagio consultant said he isn't capable of helping me at this level.

It is Direct, using just a plain old SMTP server. I have tried that email via webmail from that user, and it works fine. I've also tried that email from Outlook from that user, and it works fine, as well.

This appears to be something that Adagio is doing prior to actually trying to send the email message. If someone in Adagio Support could explain what the test program is doing, I can figure out what the problem is. For example, is it trying to access registry keys? Is it trying to create files in some unusual place?

Thank you.

Hi, PGS,

The important thing is to get the Mail Server name correct, to know whether or not you need Authentication and to get the Port correct. As well, the user needs to have permissions to use the Port.

Hi PGS,

Your user likely does not have permission to the ports, or is being blocked by a firewall like zonealarm.

After several exchanges, this problem was resolved by granting administrator rights to the user on their local workstation, configuring email, and then revoking those rights. Email worked properly once configured for the station.

Adagio expects users to be Administrators on their local workstations, and this right should be granted during installation or email setup.
