Hi guys, im hoping someone can provide some info re: moving adagio, we are rolling out a new server (win2012r2) next week and getting rid of the old one (win2008r2). We have like 6 x win7 clients that use Adagio, through the mapped finance drives.

Ive looked through the current servers add/remove programs and as far as i can see there is no mention of anything Adagio related installed on the server.

So i'm wondering what do i need to know to move adagio to the new server? I was going to setup the new server with same name, ip setup, drive maps, user accounts etc, then just copy the finance stuff over from the old machine. Then on each client disconnect from then rejoin the domain/refresh dns cache etc.

But this wont work ofcourse if Adagio is meant to be installed on the server, so im wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to migrate it properly. I have the spreadsheet with all the license info etc, client machines wont be changing.

These are the products we use.
Invoices 9.2A (150428)
Ledger 9.2A (141120)
Payables 9.2A (150310)
Receivables 9.2A (150410)
BankRec 9.2A (141218)
DataCare 9.2A (150916)
Lanpak/05 9.2B (160309)
ePrint 9.2A (150919)
PurchaseOrders 9.2A (150217)

Thanks for your time smile

Hi Alex

Your approach will most likely (90% of the time) work, although it is an unauthorized shortcut. Try it first. You'll want the Softrak folder/subfolders, the ASP folder if it exists (just to be safe, you may not really need it), and of course your data folders.

You nailed it with regards to what has to be done at each workstation.

Thanks for the reply Steve! Much appreciated.

Random question, do you think it would it matter if i changed the domain name for the new setup? I would still leave the server name the same and the ip's, drive maps etc...

The most important thing is to take the old server offline immediately, or, failing that, rename the Softrak Folder and anything to do with Adagio so that workstations are not inadvertently running anything off the old server.

Hi,

Our experience is showing that you may want to just go with UNC mapped paths instead of Mapped drives for your Adagio configuration.

If it were us, we would be recommending that your Adagio and server be configured with access using Remote Desktop. With 6 users, you are below what we see as the bubble for staying on a traditional LAN vs RDP, but Adagio runs so much better with RDP than traditional LAN configuration.

We often see server upgrades to Server 2012R2, including some form of virtualization. If that is part of your upgrade plan, make sure that you have allocated enough RAM for your Adagio users. If your are doing RDP, we would be suggesting 20-24GB of RAM for your Adagio users. Your base requirements for Cores will be met by most base configurations of the server hardware.

Again your overall RAM requirements are no longer limited by the 32 GB of Server 2008 R2, so 32 GB should not be a limiting factor.

And as Andrew recommends, it is seriously important to take the old server offline. We also have found that some of mappings will change to match any renamed directories of the old server. And rename the ADS32.dll in the old server \softrak\system\.

Best,
Brian
