I just converted a client's data from Receivables 8.1A-070920 to V9.2A-151023.
They had 456 Distribution Codes before conversion and there are none after conversion.
Any ideas?

It appears to be a problem for AR92A, but not the prior version of AR. I'd recommend that use AR91A NFR to convert their AR81A data. Then convert it to AR92A.

Thanks Bob. I have already done a lot of work on their data post-conversion like fixing address conversion issues, marking vendors inactive, etc. If I re-convert to AR91 then AR92, are there any files containing the distribution codes I could just copy over?
Can I just copy ardisb'1 and ardisb'r?

You just need the ARDIST* from that 2nd conversion. Those files contain the distributions.

Distribution Sets, ARDS*.* might be needed if they are bigger in the 2nd conversion

Hi Guys:
Thanks for your help on a Sunday morning:

There is no ARDIST,
In the A/R 8.1 files, the only file starting with ARD is: ARDUN.DAT

When I convert right to A/R 9.2, I have:
02/06/2016 01:51 PM 1,024 ARDISB'1.FLW
02/06/2016 01:51 PM 672 ARDISB'R.FLW
02/05/2016 09:46 PM 1,024 ARDSTD'1.FLW
02/05/2016 09:46 PM 512 ARDSTD'R.FLW
02/05/2016 09:46 PM 1,024 ARDSTH'1.FLW
02/05/2016 09:46 PM 512 ARDSTH'R.FLW

If I convert to V9.1, then to V9.2:
02/07/2016 08:26 AM 8,704 ARDISB'1.DAT
02/07/2016 08:26 AM 73,472 ARDISB'R.DAT
02/07/2016 08:39 AM 1,024 ARDSTD'1.DAT
02/07/2016 08:39 AM 512 ARDSTD'R.DAT
02/07/2016 08:39 AM 1,024 ARDSTH'1.DAT
02/07/2016 08:39 AM 512 ARDSTH'R.DAT

Looks like I can just copy the ARDISB'* files to the previously converted data, right?

Howard

I tested doing that and the Distributions are there and the data passes DIC so all seems OK. Perhaps, when Softrak ships a new version, they should test-convert data from each previous version and have a checklist of all supporting files to check and screens to review.
I think as a best practice going forward, when I have to convert from Plus or a very old Adagio version, I will step the upgrade through older versions through 9.2 rather than going to the latest version.

Sorry for the typo. You have it right. The AR92 distributions are stored in the ARDISB* files. The distribution sets are stored in ARDS*. I'm not sure if you need them, but it wouldn't hurt to copy them as well. Under AR8, the distributions are stored in ARGLAC*.

Hi Howard,

In the case of Receivables, if we just did the major previous versions, your suggestion would add 2 weeks to the QA cycle. I cannot see how that effort would be justified based on the number of conversion errors we might catch. And remember, this extra QA is for Adagio sites which have let their plans lapse, or who have been running a DOS product for the last 20 years.

Remember, bugs are apparent when you run into them, and non-existent if they don't affect you.

Sorry for the inconvenience of having to reconvert the data.

Personally, I wouldn't go through the trouble of stepping through all the various versions. It will be a lot of extra work for very little gain across multiple data sets. Also, we then wouldn't know about this bug so that we can fix it.

Hi Andrew:
I could do that in a few hours, day at most so I don't know about 2 weeks.
I didn't have to re-do all my post-conversion work thanks to Bob W's suggestion and everyone else's much-appreciated weekend assistance. Just did a convert to 9.1 then to 9.2 which didn't take long on my SSD and copied in 6 files.
The bad part was that the client found the issue and had to start re-entering almost 500 Distrib. codes. He did about 100 until I told him I could fix it. Makes us all look bad. It's fortunate he did find the issue in my last round of testing the conversion because they have a real production environment and add many new customers a day (you know them, 27k customers) which would have stopped them without Distrib. codes.
I understand about not finding the bugs but my goal is a smooth conversion with as little egg on my face as possible.
I will do the live upgrade tomorrow.
