A client has asked if it is possible to create a report that includes some rows lkke the following:

Department Name one
Account 5000
Account 5001
Account 6000
Account 6001
Etc.
Subtotal
Department Name two
Account 5000
Account 5001
Account 6000
Account 6001
Etc.
Subtotal
. . . and so on.

I know I can do this by adding the department number to the ranges in the account tree (or in the range definition in the spreadsheet for that matter). However, that means that the report template(s) must be edited when a new departmenr is added.

I wonder if anyone has found a way to make this more of a "smart" system.

Hi Ralph,

What you are looking for is the statement to sort/subtotal the accounts by Dept first, then by Account, when Expanding a SmartSheet. Currently there are no settings to do that 'automatically'; SmartSheets always sort the generated rows by Account first then by Department. I can't think of a good way to re-sort everything - including subtotals - based on how things work.

You can copy/paste a set of rows (with all amounts linked to a particular cell containing the dept) then update the one cell with the new department.

If you 'wanted' page breaks between each department, you could set up a statement to look exactly like you want but for a single department only. Then use the Departmental Print function (and the 'Select all' button) to print for all departments - including any that have been recently added.

Hello Ralph Allan,

The statement you are looking for (I think) is amongst those displayed here under the department statements section.

There are PDF's of the statements and downloads of them for the Adagio sample data available for download.
