Hello facpai505,

I'm a bit confused...

Are you posting in ACCPAC Plus, or in Adagio?

If you are posting in Adagio, then you should make a backup just before posting the batches (File | Backup), so that you do not need to re-enter the batches if the posting fails.

You should not be running ACCPAC Plus at all under Windows XP SP2.

So, here is some information we need to try and help you track down what is happening:

  • What version of Adagio Ledger are you running? (Help | About)
  • What Novell client are you using? (Right Mouse | Properties | Client)
  • Does it only happen on one workstation?
  • If it fails over the network, does it also fail when the data is restored locally and posted locally?
  • Are these new computers as well as new operating system?

Just to add to Andrew's post, you should also determine whether all curreny service packs have been installed for the Novell Client32. You should also disable the 'File Caching' and 'File Commit' options on Novell Client32 in addition to 'Opportunistic Locking'. This would be the same whether Adagio or Accpac was in use.

Any of these settings enabled could corrupt data quite easily.

Hello facpai505,

Actually, I was asking about which version of the Novell client you are running. That's the piece of software that runs on the workstations that communicates with your Novell server. On the WinXP workstations, you will see the Novell "N" in the system tray area of your task bar. Right mouse click on that and select "Properties" and "Client" to see the version of the client. There are known problems with some versions.

You shouldn't be posting from ACCPAC Plus AP as you will lose the ability to see the General Ledger distributions of the invoices and checks that have been entered.

Also, if the computers are new, then it's possible that you have a bardware problem. Create a DOS batch file that copies all your accounting data from the server to the workstation and back continously (have the batch file call itself) and leave that running overnight (at least) or over a weekend. It should still be running when you come in the next day. If it isn't, you have a hardware (probably network card) problem with your new computers.

Remember, make a backup of your data in Adagio Ledger just before you are about to post your batch. Use File | Backup on the Adagio Ledger menu and select "Ledger data". That way you won't have to re-enter the data if there is a problem.

My guess is that you need to update your Novell client or change some of its settings. See this post:
