To get QCWIN to print 8.5 x 7 dot matrix

We are trying to get our QC+ for Windows to print properly on 7-inch long check stock. I went into Maintain Check Specifications and changing the page size from "Default" to "Custom" and entering 8.5 x 7.0 in. I go back to my check batch and attempt and hit the "Print" button and an error window pops up saying "ERROR READING TSSIQuickReport.PaperLength: Range check error." -I hit OK to continue- immediately another error window pops up reading "General protection fault in module QCWIN.EXE at 0006:2FB4" It won't let me go any further. The other scenario is if I leave the Maintain Specs. alone and change the Win98 Generic/Text Only printer driver for our dot matrix printer to "Custom" page dimensions 8.5 x 7 and go back to QCWIN and print - nothing happens. There is no printout at all. What is going on?? Please help!!

There have been a couple of reports of this happening, and the solution each time was a problem with the spec and the version of the designer. If you edit and save a specification with a newer version of the check designer, one or more features that an earlier version may not support could have been saved with it. When you then try to print using that spec, using an older version of the designer, it would see a feature it can't support and give you an error message. How did you create the specification? Was it edited from one of the sample specs, or did your dealer create it for you in their office, or did you create it from scratch, etc? You may also want to uninstall and reinstall the program, just in case something happened to your version of the designer program. Your steps for defining the custom size of the check form is correct. That is not the cause of the errors.

The spec was converted from the QC#*.* version in 6.1. The errors mentioned happen when I use "Custom" but if I change it back to "Default" I get no errors. How can I make this work? (We also tried reloading a number of times)

There is only Section 1, the "Check" section. And this is a spec imported from the old Quik Check which was/is within 7inches. Again, we printed out on 8.5 x 11 paper just to test and it came out perfectly, if only we could get the same result to print discreetly to 8.5 x 7, back-to-back. We also tried uninstalling and reloading the program once again but when you go to print a check batch it says "ERROR READING TSSIQuickReport.PaperWidth: Range check error." Please help!

If you are still haveing problems with the custom sized check spec, there are 2 things I'd like you to try. The first is to use the sample specification qc$qchk1.sam to see if you can print preview. This sample spec is either in your data directory or in X:\softrak\qcwin\samdata, and you will have to modify it for the custom page size and spec title. Open the spec, and from File | Specification Options, change the title to something you will recognize (ie Test spec or something), and also set the page size to Custom with the 8.5 x 7 dimensions). If you can then go into the main program and print preview a check, then the problem you are having is with your converted spec and not the program or the printer setup. Should the sample specification work, then the secomd thing you should try is to open your spec in the designer. Click on the Grey bar (where it says 'Check' in blue), right-click, and choose properties. What is the check section height? Then cancel out of that screen, and while the section bar is still elected, use the down arrow key to move the grey bar down. Is there another section hidden underneath? If so, you should delete that hidden section. [This message has been edited by Softrak Support (edited 02-04-2000).]

We took and changed the sample spec to custom page dimensions, went back to our check batch and the same errors pop up immediately when pushing "print" - "ERROR READING TSSIQuickReport.PaperLength: Range check error."

Now, When we use the Generic/Text Only driver (as recommended) and go to Paper options and set to "Custom" 850 x 700 (.01 in.) and then go back to our batch in QCWIN, NOTHING happens when we hit print. Also when we go into check designer and open up any check spec an error box comes up reading Check Designer: "Printer selected is not valid"
