Our accountant would like for me to print them an Aged Trial Balance for period ending 8/31/04. When I print it, this report does not agree with my financial statements (the balance in A/R does not agree with the total in the aged trial balance report). I did notice that no matter what date I put in for the Aged Trial Balance report it seems to just print out anything that is in the system to date. Any suggestions?

Hi Holquist,

In the "Print Options" for this report, choose "Calculate as of" instead of "Aged as of" to choose only those transactions entered as of the date you want.

I did do that and it did not balance either. I will have to go through and compare the two reports and see where the difference is. Thanks!!

Hi Sheri,

The most common reason for there being a difference is that you issued an invoice or took a cash receipt at the beginning of the month, but used "Retrieve to a specific period" when picking up the Ledger transactions. For example, if you issued an invoice on May 1, but retrieved and posted the transactions to April, then the AR amounts would differ.

I am assuming that you are comparing the AR Trial Balance to a recently printed Balance Sheet, just in case you had inadvertantly posted a back dated invoice/cash receipt.

Does the total Aged Trial Balance as of the current date agree with the current balance in the GL (once all transactions have been retrieved)?

Is so, the problem is a timing problem (such as the kind Andrew described), a minor problem. If not, then you really will have to try to track down the problem, and I have to warn you that sometimes even the best detective work doesn't succeed. If you need suggestions, get back to us here.
